Resources

The following are a few of my respected resources.

For language instruction:

Chiquito, Ana Beatriz. Handbook of Contemporary Spanish Grammar, A. Boston: Vista, 2012.
I love all of the details in this book. Each topic covered includes theoretical explanations followed by thorough examples in Spanish and English. My only wish is that there were more spaces on the page; the amount of data can be overwhelming.

Dominicis, Maria Canteli and John J. Reynolds. Repase y escriba: curso avanzado de gramática y composición. Hoboken: John Wiley, 2007.
This has been my go-to Spanish book since high school (which was, I admit, before the most recent edition). This text includes literature, linguistics, grammar, and cultural lessons.

This blog of two Spanish teachers is so delightfully quirky and learner-driven that it makes me want to be back in Spanish 1 again so that I could learn from them....almost.

Created by the Spanish embassy to Great Britain, this document contains readings, audio and comprehension worksheets at a variety of Spanish levels. Great for assessing reading and writing comprehension and much closer to authentic materials than those found in many text books.

This delightfully extensive list compiled by Lawrence University might just be the holy grail of Spanish resource websites.

Native speakers chat (spontaneously) about a variety of subjects, ranging from breakfast to pilgrimages, in Spanish, French, German, English, Italian, Russian and Portuguese. Really a great way to tune your students' ear.

Tons of Spanish songs divided by ability level and major grammatical content. With each song comes a lesson overflowing with great ideas and activities.

An elaboration on a lecture given by Wilfried Decoo debunking the concept that there is a "right" way to teach languages.

I often visit Lauren Scheller's tech savy language classroom blog for ideas.

Online resources, generally about education at large:

www.good.is
A delightfully optimistic news source.

fly2learn.blogspot.com
Susan Davis is one of my mentors; she and Renee Hawkins have some very interesting things to say about education, specifically education and technology.

shelleywright.wordpress.com/
I eagerly (slowly!) work towards an inquiry based classroom similar to that of Shelley Wright.

Shawn Cornally at ThinkThankThunk works very hard to be a reflective, ever-learning teacher.

Although I do not agree with everything Diane Ravitch says, she is certainly thought provoking.
